| The
best in culture and tradition makes Thailand an interesting
and memorable country to visit. More people visit Thailand than any other
country in Southeast Asia. This is no surprise as the Royal Kingdom of
Thailand has much to offer visitors: historic culture, lively arts, beautiful
beaches, bargain shopping, a lively nightlife, friendly and hospitable
people, and last but not least, one of the best cuisines in the world. |
 |
| Most
visitors enter the country via the Southeast Asian travel hub
of Bangkok, the City of Angels. Bangkok's temples are spectacular and easily
accessible. They include the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Khao, the Temple
of the Emerald Buddha. The rooflines and spires are extravagant with rich
ornamentation, leaving you dazzled! |
 |
| From
here you can enjoy great daytrips to cities like the former
capitol of Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi, which is famous for the River Kwai
Bridge. |
|
|
 |
| From
Bangkok, many visitors head either north or south. In the north
you can visit the interesting cities of Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai
or Mae Hong Son . The north is known for its fantastic trekking possibilities,
the interesting hill tribes and its gentle Lanna culture. |
 |
| Chiang
Mai is called the "Rose of the North" for the abundance of flowers
that thrive in the cooler mountain climate. The people themselves are an
unforgettable part of Chiang Mai. Handicrafts of silk, silver and wood
are timeless souvenirs for visitors from all parts of the globe. Add to
this a wide variety of accommodations, restaurants and entertainment, making
Chiang Mai one of Thailand's prime tourist attractions. One of Chiang Mai's
greatest attractions is Doi Suthep, a 5,250 foot peak with panoramic views
over the city and the Mae Ping River. Climb the 300-step stairway flanked
by undulating, seven-headed serpents leading to the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
temple perched on top of the mountain. |
 |
| In
the south travelers can relax at some of the most beautiful
beaches in the world: Koh Tao, Krabi, Koh Samui, Phuket or Trang. Some
areas are very touristy, but it is easy to find quiet spots. Phuket (pronounced
'Poo-ket') is a large island in the off the west coast in the Andaman Sea.
A mix of different cultures has given Phuket a flavor of its own. The influence
of the early Chinese and Portuguese is still evident in the old town today.
Along with the incredible beaches, hills and lush jungle, Phuket is a water
lover's paradise. The reefs and surrounding islands teem with marine life.
Other attractions include the Phuket Aquarium, the Khao Phra Thaeo National
Park and five golf courses, including the prestigious Blue Canyon Country
Club. |
